Nurse Practitioners

A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced nursing practitioner, who makes professionally autonomous decisions, assessing patients with undiagnosed problems, based on highly developed nursing knowledge and skills, including skills not usually exercised by nurses, such as physical examination. NPs can order necessary investigations, provide treatment and care both individually, as part of a team, and through referral to other agencies.

Nurses

The Practice provides an integrated Nursing Service with close liaison between Practice Nurses working at the Health Centre and District Nurses who see patients at home. The nurses provide a comprehensive service of nursing, health promotion and preventative medicine. The Practice Nurses have had specific training to care for patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and other chest diseases, contraception, depression and many other conditions. Nurses can advise you if they feel your problems is within their training and competence. Please feel free to seek their advice at any time - there is a nurse on duty at the Surgery for most of the working day and you can also make appointments to see a nurse in her own clinic. The nurses run a series of important clinics. In the Treatment Room our nurses and health care assistants also carry out blood tests, ECGs, dressings, ear syringe, suture removal etc. Please ask at reception for information.
